Subtitle Processor is an open-source utility designed for professional subtitling jobs. It allows you to create your subtitles from scratch, edit an existing subtitle file, translate subtitles into other languages, add multiple subtitle streams, and do a thousand other things. It is comprehensive and versatile, and its developer’s concern for accuracy clearly shows all around the tool’s interface.

The program is full of highly technical details. It should not prevent you from using this tool to simply attach a subtitle stream to your favorite movie, but there are certainly simpler tools out there to do that job. With Subtitle Processor you can build your own subtitle file, write your own text and synchronize it with the corresponding image. The output subtitle file can be exported into all the most widely used subtitle formats, including SUB, SRT, TXT, and ASS. Timestamps are shown in milliseconds, and you can always rely on its impressive player and the wealth of icons and controls around it to make sure you got your subtitle right.

There is no point in going through the list of options and functions that this program offers – it simply has no end. Anything you need to do, anything you can imagine about what your favorite subtitle program should do is here. Yet this is no tool for those looking for neat, clear interfaces and simple, straightforward tasks. The number of options, settings, icons, menus, possibilities, etc., is so large that it can be overwhelming sometimes. The fact that the program’s developers have decided to scatter most of the options and settings all around the interface – using tiny icons and hard-to-spot headings – instead of the more traditional layout based on menus and toolbars, certainly do not help. That is the price we have to pay sometimes if we want to achieve the best possible results.
